Dawit Miteku
No one can deny that the Eritrea Government is the
boss behind much of the region’s havoc. It wanders around everywhere, smelling
for conflicts; be it minor or major. It works relentlessly to disturb the peace
of any country that it doesn’t even have border links to.
Considering war or conflict as business, the
Eritrean government starts to calculate how much it will profit as soon as it
hears about even a minor conflict in the region. It contemplates how it will
fill its money vault out of the misery of others. It not only contemplates –
but it works as an agent for other forces and takes commission at the expense
of the lives of civilians in the conflict. As it adheres to a ‘war economy’
philosophy, it uses the money it gets for its commission to ignite other
conflicts.
As it is known, it’s obvious that the Asmara
administration, which chooses conflict over peace, antagonizing instead of the
internationally popular Diplomacy, havoc strategy instead of regional
cooperation, is doing its usual work of igniting conflict in the region using
its long sinister hands. Here it should be asked, “still havoc strategy in
Eritrea?’ This is because, since the Asmara’s regime looks and recruits
countries with potential for conflict and for possible havoc activities,
peace-loving entities should know about this and should do the appropriate
supervision. Thus, in order to answer the above question I’ll try to implicate
the reason behind Asmara’s regime havoc strategy and its innate nature.
After its policies and the dictatorial fist it follows
to rule over its country created problems on it for the past twenty three
years, it has become clearly obvious that the Eritrean government is committed
to wrecking havoc and disturbing the countries of the region. As the Asmara’s
squad was trying to run its economy on the back of others wealth since the
independence of Eritrea, it entered into wrecking havoc and destruction
throughout the region after it realized its aspiration of being the great
conqueror of the region won’t come into fruit. Instead of halting its
aggression and putting efforts to revive its ailing economy, many agree on the
fact that the regime chose to pour kerosene on the region’s conflicts.
As it can be recalled, the Eritrean government consumed
with military Bravado of its ‘Sahel’ days had played mischief with in Ethiopia,
Somalia, Djibouti, Sudan and Yemen as part of its ‘wreck havoc in Horn of
Africa’ agenda. After the UN carefully investigated the Asmara’s government
havoc and destruction activities by tasking a monitoring group, the Security
Council had decided to impose its first sanction claiming the ‘Shabiya’
Administration “is a danger to the region’s peace and stability”.
I think how and in what way ‘Shabiya’ is dangerous
to the region’s countries should be looked at. After it lost and as a
consequence embarrassed itself in the face of the international community in
its war against Ethiopia, the Asmara administration doesn’t back down from
participating in any activities that it deems will hurt Ethiopia. Nevertheless,
as its barren-hop of disturbing our country by pooling, organizing, training
and arming anti-peace entities and terrorist that are immiscible with their
political outlook failed, now it has turned its attention to be the
terrorist-in-chief of the region.
Although, the Asmara’s government havoc strategy is
exposed by the region states and the United Nations, the Ato Isaias
administration did not wish to give attention these international
condemnations. So, it seems that the regime is committed to push away diplomacy
from the table and terrorize the region. So, it can’t turn his back on the
terrorists and anti-peace forces that operate in the region, and he won’t back
down from supporting them. It doesn’t want to lose the benefit that comes from
its exploitative policies.
It is known that the Ato Isaias led government’s
innate havoc nature from its start 40 and 50 years ago. ‘shabiya’ under the
name ‘Eritrean People's Liberation Front
(EPLF)’ started a struggle for Eritrea’s freedom in Sahel desert, and under its
People's Front for Democracy and Justice name
took the mantle of the new independent Eritrea’s government.
During its rebel days, ‘shabiya’ was sitting on the
mountains and learning the ways of anti-democracy, military bravado and
exploitation which made them its way of life. After the demise of ‘Derg’, ‘shabiya’
graduating these behaviors into its nature became government of Eritrea and
entered into its Asmara palace. As being demons of anti-democracy and
exploitation are hard to exorcise and also overestimating its military prowess,
the ‘shabiya’ administration totally forgot that it’s a government that has to
succumb to international rule and law, and end up being the chief sponsor of
havoc and destruction in the region. According to many analysts who followed
Shabiya closely claim, the regime is consumed with undemocratic and
exploitative behaviors.
As the Asmara’s squad was trying to run its economy
on the back of others wealth since the independence of Eritrea, it entered into
wrecking havoc and destruction throughout the region after it realized its
aspiration of being the great conqueror of the region won’t come into fruit.
Instead of halting its aggression and putting efforts to revive its ailing
economy, it chose to pour kerosene on the region’s conflicts.
Leaving everything aside, we can raise as an
instance before 6 years that it wants to carryout terror activities through its
partners looking the terror attack carried out against twenty seven tourists
that came from American, Germany, Austria, Italy and Hungary who were around ‘Ertale’
in Afar region to visit the areas tourist attractions - although this havoc
strategy was not successful.
As it is known, Shabiya was eager to continue the
commission it used to get from Nongovernmental organizations since its days of ‘Sahel
mountains after coming to power by being the boss of the region – though this
wish turned into thin air. So, there wasn’t a stone left unturned by the regime
to rent seek by contacting some countries of the region that were moving to
protect their interest by saying ‘since I’m the boss of the region, you can
benefit by initiating a close relationship with me’. But what can you do?! …
Its own initiated war with Ethiopia has woken it up
from its fantasy world. Of course few officials of Eritrea’s government were
knee-deep in wrong assumption of ‘grandeur’. They completely forgot that they
are leaders of a small, war torn and poor country that’s half a century since
its birth. They compete themselves with the superpower America. They compare
themselves with Ethiopia, which is way ahead of it economically, and in
diplomatic and democratic respect. And there can be no political or diplomatic
medicine for this kind of problem.
As it is known, Ato Isaias Afewerqi’s regime had in
the part got recognition for its troubles of wrecking havoc throughout East
Africa so much that the UN Security Council has given its deserving award in
the shape of Sanctions twice. And how it’s recent diplomatic “spree” and
finessing will get it out of its political Isolationism and sanctions without
making any change in its approach. Of course it’s easier to expect honey from a
housefly than expecting Asmara regime to change its destabilizing strategy and
war obsession – considering the how terrorism and ‘shabiya’ are becoming
intertwined within the past 25 years. So, peace loving communities all over the
world should do something to put a stop to these acts of destabilizing the
region.
